Discussion on a Portland Area Open Source Project Talks Event: (Make sure to add your e-mail at bottom of etherpad for updates) The idea behind this etherpad is to allow discussion and planning for a event that would enable speakers from various open source user groups and projects to come and talk about what they are working on our their project or just educate others. The event idea is very fluid at the moment and will likely evolve more and we invite you to help in that evolution process. What would a good venue be? * PSU * FreeGeek (Small Space) * UrbanAirship (Likely do-able ~5pm+ or on a weekend) * Bagdad / Mission Theatres (Cost = ???) * Isight Design What would be a good length of time for the event? * a couple hours * three hours * all day When would be a good Date/Time? (Remember planning takes time) * October?+1+1 (Attendency is likely higher outside of summer) * This works well for the OpenWebApps talk since the marketplace will be hitting beta on Oct 8th * WhereCamp Portland is Oct 12-14 and I'd prefer not to conflict with that * Monthly? * Quarterly? (May be harder to sustain attendance) Goals (What do we want to accomplish as a result of this event): * Greater awareness for Portland-based open-source software (hardware?) projects +1 * Greater engagement between all open source user groups in Portland Metro Area * More contributors to projects that already exist +1 * Practice for talks at larger groups/conferences Would we need funding for food and beverage? If Funding needed, Sponsor Possibilities? * Shopigniter (see sam.sjk@gmail.com (Thanks) * Mozilla (Will put in request for funding for Coffee/Beverages) * Urban Airship has kegs if they host - I work there, and can arrange once we have things set Who would be interested in organizing or co-organizing? * Benjamin Kerensa (bkerensa@ubuntu.com) * Sam Keen (sam.sjk@gmail.com) (Yay!) * Nathan Williams (nath.e.will@gmail.com) * William Van Hevelingen (blkperl@cat.pdx.edu) * Daniel Hedlund (daniel@digitree.org) * Lance Gilbert (lanceg@amtec.us.com) * Your name here!
